CIPC B-BBEE Certificates
CIPC B-BBEE Certificates
(Description / Services)
The BEE Certificate, also known as the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Certificate, is a document issued in South Africa to assess and verify a company’s level of compliance with the country’s Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Act (B-BBEE). The main objective of B-BBEE is the inclusion of the black race (broadly defined as African, Indian and mixed race) in the economy, within a broader goal of national empowerment, targeting historically disadvantaged people such as black people in general, women, youth, rural people, communities and people with disabilities.
- CIPC only provides B-BBEE certifications to exempt microenterprises with an annual turnover of less than R10 million.
- The certificate is only valid for one year and cannot be renewed. Once it expires, a new application must be submitted.
- Only directors/members of entities can apply for B-BBEE certifications, not intermediaries or third parties.
- Entities that have at least one foreign director/member do not qualify for CIPC B-BBEE certificates.
